Jeremy Fluhmann

Hello World!

Hello! My name is Jeremy Fluhmann. I'm currently the Programmer/Analyst for the Memorial Student Center at Texas A&M University. Please feel free to contact me by e-mail anytime: jfluhmann@tamu.edu

Perl Background

I've been working with Perl since the Fall of 2002. I starting learning Perl so that I could modify a traffic analysis program that my employer at the time was using. It was MRTG (Multi-Router Traffic Grapher). Since then, I've been using Perl to automate many of the job tasks that I've had. I haven't contributed anything to CPAN, but I'm sure I'll have a few things going before too long. In the summer, I hope to pick up or contribute to a few Perl-related projects. I've started working more with Ajax techniques using Perl on the backend. It's a lot easier than I had initially thought it would be.

Projects

I have a mashup project planned for the summer. I plan on taking information from the Texas Education Agency (school size and population, performance, drop-out rates, etc.) and mashing it up with Google Maps (or some other mapping API). I want to allow users to specify criteria, such as schools that are 'Recognized' and show their locations on a map. My wife and I plan on using this to help decide where we want to send our daughter. Last time I checked, there were only 7 schools in the entire state of Texas that reached 'Exemplary' status.
